Missy was treated multiple times with the other vets, who supplied her with antibiotics and pain relief medications. She has been visiting them at least twice a month with the same recurrent issues - squatting constantly, asking to come out, even at the night time, and passing lots of small wees, recently with blood.
The owner visited us Saturday morning, after a very long night when Missy could not settle and started to wain in pain. During the examination her abdomen was tensed and she was looking at me almost saying "I am in pain". Blood stained urine was dripping from her back end and while she was panting uncomfortably.
After checking the history from the other vet practice and a honest chat with the owner, we have decided to act immediately. Missy was admitted to the hospital, given pain relief medication, had her ultrasound scan done, that confirmed our first thoughts of a bladder stone. Another phone call to the owner to confirm she was happy with going ahead with general anaesthesia and off we go!
Missy had her x-rays and surgery done few hours after she was admitted and what a surprise! The stone was so massive it was taking all the space in her bladder, causing massive inflammation and haemorrhagic cystitis.
Missy recovered remarkably well and went home the same day and you could see that even after such a major surgery she was already a happy dog!
True story. Every patient deserves thorough investigation to get to the bottom of the problem and sort it out for good.
